Three Magical Grand National Days

Opening Day: Thursday

The day starts off the festivities and also introduces the festival and events that lay ahead. This first day is always much more of a relaxing day and allows the racegoers to sample the Aintree atmosphere at their own pace, with it attracting tens of thousands visitors each year.

The opening day features an array of top-class racing, including the Martell Cognac Cup in the past and this year is to be sponsored by the Scottish and Newcastle owned John Smith’s, who are the UK’s number 1 selling ale and will sponsor the event for the next three years, thus marking a new era for the Grand National which will be exciting and continue to be packed full of entertainment throughout the three days.

Ladies Day: Friday

Ladies Day at the Aintree Grand National meeting is always highly anticipated and undoubtedly the highlight in the North West social calendar. Last year proved to be another huge spectacle with over two hundred people registered to take part in the ‘Looking Good’ style contest as they tried to win the prize of a £23,000 Jaguar.

The day always attracts the latest fashions and plenty of items many of us would choose not to be seen in. Ladies day though, is always very successful, boasting an electric atmosphere in all enclosures and has over the years become a large part of the Grand National meeting.

The Aintree Grand National: Saturday

The third day is the Aintree Grand National day itself, which is anticipated all year long by all horse racing fans and many of those who don’t follow the sport, with the race taking place every year on the Saturday following Ladies day. The climax of the three-day meeting at Aintree and this year is worth £700,000 to the winner, with crowd levels set to soar beyond anything ever reached before.

The Grand National race will be watched by over six hundred million people around the globe and over sixty-five thousand spectators at the course itself, with tickets sold out long before the day. The Aintree Grand National continues to be a race not only for the horse racing enthusiast and is a must watch for everyone, so make sure you join us for the Grand National, bet online and catch up on all the latest news.
